What Makes HPHT Diamond Growth Different?

HPHT stands for high pressure, high temperature. During growth, a small diamond seed is placed inside specialised equipment with a carbon source and metallic flux. Extreme heat and pressure allow carbon to dissolve and then crystallise onto the seed, gradually building a diamond crystal. GIA identifies HPHT as one of the two main laboratory diamond-growth methods, alongside chemical vapour deposition, or CVD.
